Book Club Questions for
Double Destiny

Double Destiny will no doubt generate some discussion because of its “different” story structure. If you’d like to use these questions, I recommend not reading them until you’re done with the entire book since they contain some spoilers. Also, you’ll want to read Double Destiny from page one through the last page (no cheating by reading the last page first!). As you know, to get the most out of the discussions these questions can generate, you’ll want to access the book in order to support your answers with examples and quotes from the text. I hope you enjoy this twisty tale!

•What role does Fate play in both stories? Do you believe in the concept? Why/why not?

•Who was your first love? What effect did he or she have on your life? If you could have another chance with them, would you take it? How would he or she fit into your life today? What sacrifices would you have to make for them?

•If you were Suzy, how would you feel about being pursued by a man who’s as persistent as Russell? Does he ever become too overzealous?

•What clues are used throughout “First Love” to hint at Russell’s real condition? If you read or scanned the story again, what phrases/imagery/references would hold a different meaning the second time around?

•How does the character of Isabelle/Sheree connect the two stories? What does she add to Russell’s life? Susannah’s life?

•What are some differences between the Suzy of Russell’s dreams and Susannah? Which woman suits him better and why?

•The two stories reference several eras. Which ones can you recall, and how do they reflect the tone and theme of the stories?

•How do you think the dream helped Russell when he actually met Susannah again? What advice would you have given these two in order to speed up their reconciliation?

•What do you think about Susannah giving up a successful corporate career to open a day care center? Would you make the same choice if you were in her shoes? Why/why not?

•Do you predict that adopting children will keep Russell and Susannah happy and content with their marriage? Why/why not?
